Toronto & Niagara Falls

February 18, 2015

I’ve just returned from the most amazing long weekend in Toronto and Niagara Falls with my boyfriend. It had been a month and a half since I’d seen him so to say I was excited was an understatement.  4906080

One step outside the airport doors and the cold caught me. Toronto was the coldest weather I’ve ever experienced. I feel like I should be a weather woman with all the reports I give on the weather over here. But -18 on our arrival really wasn’t what I had expected. Here is a video from our first morning.

I had booked hotels for Toronto months ago but only days before I cancelled them and rebooked nicer hotels for a better price on It gives you a really good rate on hotels and only tells you their star rating and in what area they are located – you only find out after you’ve paid which hotel you got. It’s kinda fun and I’ve yet to be disappointed so definitely worth checking out. Our view from the Sheraton Centre Hotel:

On Valentines eve we took a trip to Niagara falls (less than two hours from Toronto). It was off peak in Niagara Falls, as it was so cold and most of the falls were frozen. It was really cool to see it that way though. I had been there before in the summer when it was roasting and packed and there was something very magical about how quiet it was this time. We had the most beautiful hotel room over looking the falls.

We returned to Toronto for Valentines night where we went for dinner in the CN tower – the tallest building in the world until 2010. It’s 115 stories high. I honestly forgot I was afraid of heights until I was in that lift going up to the restaurant. The 360 degrees restaurant itself is appropriately named – with glass windows surrounding the revolving restaurant. I can safely say it was the coolest place I’ve ever eaten. After dinner we went down to the glass floor, where you can stand over 1000ft above the ground on a pain of glass… not the most relaxing experience in heels.

On Sunday morning, we headed for the mountains to attempt to ski – both of our first time. We had a lovely, crisp -20 degree day on the slopes. Safe to say I stuck to the beginner slopes and enjoyed watching all the really talented toddlers pass me out on their skis.

As nice as it is to get away, and to be reunited with my boyfriend – it’s always hard to leave knowing we’re going to be apart for such a long time again. I feel lucky that I get to have the best of both worlds and there are definitely worse places to be coming back to than NYC, my home for the year. The feeling flying in over Manhattan never gets old. Sparkly lights can make any one feel better.
