Sunday’s Best

March 31, 2015

One of my favourite things about the weekend is being able to get out of office clothes and into something a little bit more fun – especially in New York, a city where you can never be overdressed. You can literally wear whatever you want and no one bats an eye.

The style in the West Village and Soho at the weekends is enough to make any one want a new wardrobe. It’s fun to make an effort to dress up and feel like you are a part of it all. I found this sleeveless cream blazer in Forever 21 on Saturday – such a good find! I paired it with an all black outfit and cream heels. I’m loving black and cream together at the moment!

One thing missing from these photos that I should be wearing – a coat!!! Sunday was the coldest day with the strongest winds. It may be the end of March but we’re still patiently waiting for Spring temperatures to set in… Any day now!

Six Months a New Yorker

March 31, 2015

Today marks my 6th month anniversary with New York, and we’ve never been more in love. It scares me to think how quickly it has gone by but also makes me excited to see what is to come in the next 6 months.

Of course there are things I hate about being so far from home (mainly missing my boyfriend, family and friends) but I’ve always just loved New York so much. The people, the mindset, the busyness – it never gets old. There is something so magical about the city all the time.

I feel so lucky to be here working where I am for the year. I’ve already met some of the most amazing people and had such incredible experiences. In September, I return to Dublin for a year to finish the graduate program with Tourism Ireland. After that we shall begin to plot my return.

Here’s to the next 6 months!!

Exploring Williamsburg

March 29, 2015

I spent quite a bit of time exploring Williamsburg last weekend. As if there isn’t enough to do in Manhattan – NYC has boroughs that can easily compete for things to do, see and most importantly to eat!

On Saturday I headed out there with my friends Abby and Lorna for some lunch and general exploring. I am definitely running out of winter clothes at this point and I can assure you it is not warm enough to be coat-less (I froze for the day). Time to invest in a Spring Jacket I think, I’m on the look out! Here is a few pics of what I wore:

Of course no Saturday is complete without finding somewhere new and different to eat. We discovered the cutest little cafe with the prettiest decor and yummiest pastries, called Caprices by Sophie:

All White in the West Village

March 24, 2015

The sunniest Sunday I’ve seen in months called for a summery outfit – note: tights still needed (it’s not summer yet!)

Sunglasses – Tom Ford
Blouse – Penneys
Necklace – Penneys
Skirt – Missguided
Shoes – Boohoo
Bag – Celine

I love this blouse my sister sent me from Penney’s in Ireland. My necklace is from there too – god I miss Penneys! You really don’t realise what you have until it’s gone. Buuttt there is a Primark set to open in Boston before Christmas and in New York in 2016. I’ll just have to come back to check it out 🙂
I spent the day wandering around the West Village with the girls, doing what we do best – eating our way from one corner to another. There are so many amazing restaurants in NY, as soon as I’ve ticked one off my list I have another one to add!

So nice to see the sun out, after what I hope was our last snowstorm of the year on Friday. I can slowly feel summer approaching – days like this are such a tease! I’m excited to eat outside and sit in the parks and to not have to wear tights and to drink an iced coffee without gloves on… There is so much I love about this city in the summer. I am so ready!

Dessert Spots in NYC

March 19, 2015

If you’re like me and have the sweetest tooth of all teeth then you’ll appreciate this list of places – whether its just for ideas of what to make or whether you actually plan on visiting.

1. Serendipity III

There is usually a wait for this place as it is so popular – but it’s so worth it. The decor inside is so cute and the dessert tastes as good as it looks. The Frozen Hot Chocolate pictures above is there signature drink and it definitely does the trick for an Irish girl suffering chocolate withdrawals while living in the States.

2. The Bakeshop by Woops

BeFunky Collage

This cute little cafe in Williamsburg has the best selection of Macaroons. The cafe itself is just so girly and pretty.

3. The City Bakery

Hot chocolate with a brick of homemade marshmallow. Enough said. What more could you want on a snowy day? It’s a pricey bowl of hot chocolate at $7 but it’s quite filling and is definitely worth the treat. Call it dinner.

4. Max Brenners Chocolate Restaurant

From the second you walk in the door of this restaurant you know you have made the right choice. The smell of chocolate is so overwhelmingly beautiful. They have a normal food menu, but they have chocolate everything: Pasta, Pizza, Sandwiches… We treated ourselves to some fondue. I will definitely have to go back for that pizza though. Chocolate and marshmallows on pizza. I need to go back.

To be continued…
