Irish Success Stories & Weekend Plans

Happy Friday Everyone!

I haven’t been this excited a weekend in a while. After such a long, hot week in the city I am so excited to be heading to the Hamptons for the first time this summer with a few of my closest friends here, Lorna, Erika & Michaela.

Today was spent appreciating Irish success stories. This morning started with a Hozier Concert in Central Park at 7am, which was definitely an early start – but so worth it! I’ve been wanting to see him for a while – and it’s funny that it happened in New York before Ireland – but I’m not complaining. I then went to catch up with Don O’ Neill at his New York studio. 15 Things That Are Only Normal in New York

I think it’s safe to say that with New York being as expensive as it is we have a whole different idea of what’s ‘normal’ to pay for certain things. $6 for cereal – fine. $4 for coffee – that’s standard. $18 for a fancy cocktail – average. It’s not shocking that rent in New York is high – it’s the best city in the world to live in – but I find it funny what we consider good value. Anything between $1000 – $1500 in Manhattan can be considered a great deal… anywhere else in the world this would be madness – and you would certainly be getting more than a shoebox apartment. Even though the rent prices for an apartment is higher than what we would like to see in the city, there is bound to be somewhere that suits you and your housing needs. And that’s why a lot of people decide to pack up their bags and relocate their lives to New York. Even with the high rent costs, it doesn’t seem to have an effect on the people who decide to move here. Continue Reading…

Yellow Blouse at Gramercy Park

Here we are again… wishing the week away until Friday. This weekend was a busy one as usual – very different to the weekends I have at home where I just take time to relax. Especially because I am only here for one year, every weekend I try and fit in as much as possible – I can’t bare the thought of wasting a day.

This weekend I ticked off the last touristy thing I had left on my list for NY – I visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was cool to see it from so close and to get a better understanding of all the history out there. It was fun to be a tourist for a day in New York – it is a completely different experience then what you have while living here. A day was enough though haha – being a tourist in this heat is not easy! Continue Reading…

This week was definitely a weird one in New York. Between having my phone stolen at the weekend, being sick on Tuesday and finding out my start date in Dublin yesterday – it’s all been a big change from my usual NYC life.

My year with Tourism Ireland in New York is coming to an end at the start of September and I will head back to Dublin to work in the head office for a year. It’s such great experience to be able to work internationally and in Ireland. I’m looking forward to the new experiences in Dublin, and even though I’m not quite sure I’m ready to leave here yet, I’m definitely ready to move back to my boyfriend, friends and family. Pink Playsuit

July 20, 2015

I learnt the hard way that loving New York as much as I do is not always a good thing – I sometimes forget how big and scary it can be. On Saturday night my iPhone 6 was stolen from my handbag while sitting with my 2 friends Erika & Audrey in a bar. Continue Reading…
