Dubai Travel Diary – Part I

March 28, 2017

Hi from Dubai,

We’ve been here 4 full days already and time needs to slow down. It’s my first time here and to say I’m blown away by the city is an understatement. It’s like no city I’ve ever been to before, a luxurious lego-land in the desert where culture and city life go hand in hand. The buildings are so modern and impressive and there is just so much to do here, whether you’re seeking out a break in the sun or an adventure filled holiday – it’s got it all. We’ve definitely done a mix of both so far on our holiday so I wanted to put together a blog post with some info on what we’ve been up to. I’ve so much to share that I thought the best way to do this would be to split it into 2 posts.

Some general info

The local currency (AED) works out at about 1/4 of a euro per AED.

Taxi’s are super cheap (you will get them everywhere) but everything else (food, drink, shopping) is pretty pricey.

There are no off licences over here, and as alcohol is so expensive, I would recommend picking up some in duty free before travelling if you’re fond of a cheeky glass of vino 😉

If you’re flying into Dubai Airport (DBX) give yourself plenty of time to get through passport control, it took us over an hour.

The sun doesn’t really get hot until about 10/10.30am so don’t rush yourself out of bed in the morning.

Where we are staying

We are staying in the fab Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel and its definitely the most luxurious hotel I’ve ever stayed in. There are SO many hotels in Dubai so we spent so long on trying to decide which one to book before we came. We eventually decided on this one, based on the amazing reviews it got on Tripadvisor, the location and the style of the hotel. We got an upgrade on arrival – and our room is just out of this world. I’d say it’s easily bigger than my whole house back in Dublin haha. The view is to die for – and the BATH!!!

Where we are eating

We booked breakfast with our hotel – which was a great call. It’s the biggest and best hotel breakfast I’ve ever seen with a Juice making station, Omelete making station and literally every type of breakfast food you could imagine. We usually fill up for the day at breakfast. Continue Reading…

Spring Knitwear you NEED

March 13, 2017

Hi guys,

Despite the weather we have been experiencing the last few weeks, today is a testament to the fact that summer is on the way. But first – SPRING. I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly not ready to leave my knit jumpers behind just yet, so I’ve found myself investing in some lighter, brighter springtime knits that will carry me through to the (hopefully) warmer seasons.

Here are 21 of my favourites from a selection of online shops. The great thing about the jumpers I’ve chosen is you really could wear them in any season: over a summer dress in July, with a layer underneath in December, and just how it is in March.

I hope you like my choice, happy shopping 🙂

How to Grow Your Following

March 9, 2017

Hi guys,

Following on from my little story on Human’s of Dublin earlier this week about the struggles of starting a blog (or anything really), I’ve had quite a few people get in touch with me looking for advice on building a following online.

This is a new kind of blog post for me but it’s actually something I get asked all the time in interviews, by friends, by followers: How did I grow my following?

Whether for a blog or a new business, there’s no doubt that social media plays a very important role in letting people know about it and getting them interested in what you have to offer. Fortunately, there are resources like Nitreo which can help boost your following or you can go it alone if you think your content is good enough. Having spent the last 2 years doing just that, I thought I would share some of my top tips that you may find useful: Continue Reading…

My Go-To Accessory

March 6, 2017

Hey guys,

I hope your week is off to a good start. This week is off to a pretty mental start for me – I posted my first YouTube video, was featured on Humans of Dublin and have been absolutely up the walls in work in the meantime. Working in Tourism Ireland, March is a very busy time. The lead up to Ireland’s National Holiday in our office is like the lead up to Christmas in Santa’s workshop. Well maybe not quite the same but you get the jist 😉

On these busy days, I still try to feel and look my best. That’s when I am my most productive. This means finding fast easy ways to do this, whether its finding quick, healthy meals to eat, a handy hair trick or something fab that I can wear to make any look stylish. For me, you’ve probably noticed, these necklaces have been featuring on almost every outfit I wear lately, and that’s exactly why. They are so simple but gorgeous and can be worn so many different ways. See two previous outfit posts I did wearing them here and here. Continue Reading…
