On My Mind: Positive Mind, Positive Life

January 18, 2018

Hi guys,

I hope you are all having a great week – we made it through Blue Monday!!! It’s gotta be all uphill from here right? The January paycheck (for most) is on the horizon and the evenings are slowly but surely getting a little bit brighter – woohoo!

Today’s on my mind blog post is going to focus on positivity, because that’s one thing we could all definitely do with a little more of on these miserable wintery days haha. I’m going to give some tips that I think are helpful for staying positive and fighting away those negative thoughts. The way you think about something, can change your day, your mood, your interactions with people and your outlook on life. I’ve had my own experience learning this, and I’ve done some additional research for this blog – I’ll share both.

First of all let’s talk about Positive Thinking… What is it?

The “power of positive thinking” is a popular idea, it can even feel a little cliché at times. Some of you are probably rolling your eyes at the sound of it, but the mental and physical benefits of it have been proven many times. Positive thinking doesn’t mean that you keep your head in the sand and ignore all things negative in the world. Positive thinking just means that you approach these not-so-great situations in a more positive and productive way. It means thinking the best is going to happen, rather than the worst. It encourages you to look for the good in people and yourself, rather than the bad.

Fresh Faced for the New Year

January 15, 2018

Hi guys,

I’m starting the new year off with a fresh face and trying out some new beauty products which I’ve heard so much about. I’ve seen lots of my favourite beauty bloggers raving about the Glossier products, they have the perfect skincare and make-up options for that natural, glowy look that I love to create. However when I visited the website I realised that they don’t yet deliver to Ireland 🙁

Thankfully AddressPal have just launched a service where you can get all of your favourite US & UK shops (that don’t deliver to Ireland) delivered to your door or closest Post Office for a small fee. This means whether the company ships here or not, you can order from them! And also you avoid those nasty custom fees! Signing up is simple:

5 Things to Lift Your Spirits

January 11, 2018

Hi guys,

I’ve changed my mind a million times about what I was going to do this week’s ‘On My Mind’ blog post on. I have actually started and stopped a few different ones, but to be honest we’re almost at the end of the second week of January and I think we could all do with something uplifting and inspiring to get us through these dark, dreary days. I have made a list of 5 things I know will bring you some joy & inspiration – so sit back, grab a cup of tea and enjoy:

  1. Holly Butcher’s Life Lessons

Holly Butcher, an Australian woman not much older than me, sadly died last Thursday after a battle with cancer, and she has wrote a beautiful post about the important things in life. Something we could all definitely do with a reminding of when we are giving out about the silly, trivial things we give out about on a daily basis (especially in January).

If you haven’t read it already, here is the link and I have copied and pasted it below as well:  Continue Reading…

Our Weekend Getaway to Mayo

January 9, 2018

Hi guys,

I hope January is going ok for you all. It’s never an easy month, so whatever you can do to make yourself feel better this month do it! Go easy on yourself: take a bath, treat yourself to some chocolate, and make some nice cosy plans with your friends.  January is hard enough without totally depriving yourself of all the lovely things we’re used to at Christmas.

With this in mind, I had planned a weekend away to the Lodge at Ashford Castle. We didn’t do proper Christmas presents this year instead we set a budget of €20, so we could spend our money on doing things together instead. We booked Coachella in April (a music festival based in California) which I’m very excited for, but it’s nice to get away even for a night in Ireland as well. We often take it for granted because it’s on our doorstep, but after working in Tourism Ireland for years, if anyone knows how amazing Ireland is, its me. And I plan on taking more advantage of that this year.  Continue Reading…

On My Mind: Comparison is the Thief of All Joy

January 4, 2018

Hi guys,

Welcome to the new section of my blog: On My Mind. This is going to be a new weekly ‘column’ sort of area of my blog, where I will just chat about a topic, and I’d love for you to get involved in the comments section, share your thoughts. Whether it be something on the news or just something on my mind – I thought it would be nice to go a little deeper on the blog, talking about things that matter and that can help people (and myself). It won’t be for everyone, and it’s a far cry from my usual fashion posts, but to be honest I’ve found myself getting bored sharing the same old stuff here week in, week out.

This week I’m going to talk about the topic of comparison, because it’s something I have struggled with in the past, it’s something we all have to deal with in the age of social media every day, and it’s something I’ve seen more and more people openly do publicly in the last while. And it needs to stop.

My Struggle

I spent years comparing myself to anyone and everyone. Since I was in school it has just been a normal part of my life, which allowed me to never truly be happy in my successes and at times has distracted me from what I really wanted. I learnt there is a  never-ending list of things that you can compare yourself based on (money, jobs, education, family, bodyshape, travels, the list goes on…) and a never-ending list of people to compare with too. It’s a dangerous road to start and be stuck on. Honestly it has a lot to do with not feeling good enough, and thats something I’m always working on. Continue Reading…
