Last week I got back from the most amazing trip to the Seychelles. If you are reading this there is a good chance you saw some of my pics and blog posts – there was quite a few
I wanted to put together a Seychelles travel diary for anyone thinking about visiting – so I can share all the information I have in one place.
How did we get there from Ireland?
We flew with Emirates from Dublin to Dubai (8 hours) and then from Dubai to Seychelles (4 hours). So it was a long journey – but it flew (excuse the pun). I was happy out on the flights watching lots of good movies, enjoying good food and drinks and I even managed to get a few hours sleep (the starlit ceilings helped with that!)
Where we stayed?
We stayed in honestly the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever seen – the Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove on Mahé Island. The infinity pool looking on to the beach is just out of this world! Our room was huge and all of the hotels restaurants were amazing!
Mahé is the biggest island in the Seychelles – it’s where the airport is and it is often considered the most affordable island to stay on.
What we did?
Apart from sunbathing, drinking cocktails and eating we did some exploring of the Seychelles. Here are my top tips if you are planning a visit:
Mahé Island:
- Visit the markets in Victoria on Saturday where you will see the locals selling fruit, veg, fish, clothes, souvenirs, flowers, you name it!
- Admire the architecture of the stunning Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple
- Feed 20 giant tortoises in the Botanical Gardens
- Spend time wandering in the gorgeous gardens at Jardin Du Roi
- Sip on cocktails out of coconuts at the Boathouse Beach Bar
Praslin Island
- Stroll around the stunning UNESCO World Hertiage Site ‘Vallee De Mai‘ – a jungle-like experience with amazing tropical plants!
- Visit literally the most stunning beach in the world at Anse Lazio. I have never seen whiter sand or bluer waters. It is the most photographed beach in the world and I can see why!
La Digue
- Enjoy some fresh seafood at Fishtrap Restaurant – which is located right on the beach
- Grab a bike and cycle around the smallest (and arguably) the most beautiful island in the Seychelles
- Sunbathe on the boulder filled beach at Anse Source D’Argent.
What we ate?
The food in the Seychelles was very impressive. There was a huge choice everywhere we ate and everything was very fresh and tasty. The one thing I was surprised we didn’t see too much of over there was ice-cream! We found an ice cream parlour on our last day and indulged
What was the currency? Was it expensive?
The currency is Seychelle Rupees (SCR) but they accept Euro and debit/credit cards in most places as well. Sometimes they might give you back your change in Rupees even if you pay in Euros – it’s a little confusing but it does make life easier not having to worry too much about carrying another currency.
I didn’t find it expensive at all. Even in our 5 star resort cocktails were reasonable at €10/€12 and meals were always around the €20 mark. Similar prices to Dublin – but there were other hotels and beach bars with restaurants that were less expensive so there is definitely options.
I would recommend getting your breakfast when booking your room as it is quite expensive to add on afterwards. With breakfast included in the price of the hotel I spent around €700 in the week I spent there.

How much time do you need?
We spent a week there and I think we had plenty of time, we got enough time to relax and unwind as well as seeing the main 3 islands. But a little bit more time would be no harm either! It is paradise after all
I hope this little bit of info was useful for any of you who may consider a trip to the Seychelles in the future. It is literally heaven on earth!
