Last weekend I travelled to literally the one place I’ve ever been that I would describe as heaven on earth. It was the prettiest, most relaxing place with the nicest people and yummiest food (Pizza all day errday!)
It was exactly the kind of holiday I love. The village is still so authentically Italian, there is so much to look at and take in. I could have wandered the streets all day and night (if there wasn’t so many steps haha).
Where we stayed
I’ve had so many questions about the stunning hotel we stayed in, it was Casa Albertina in Positano. I booked on Hotwire.com – I’ve been using Hotwire for years but this has to be my best hotel find to date. LOOK at those views!!! It felt like something out of a movie.
Hotwire.com is a travel website where you can book hotels, cars and flights at discounted rates. I’ve only ever used it for hotels – when I travelled to Toronto, Budapest and Amsterdam I used it and I always get amazing hotels for such good value.
The location of our Positano hotel was perfect, it was a ten minute walk to the beach, and restaurants lined the entrance to our hotel. It has valet parking and the staff were so helpful and friendly.
The room itself was basic enough (no iron, and not the best hair drier) but it was all we needed for our short weekend away. There was a laundry and pressing service available in the hotel so we weren’t completely stuck if we did need to iron something.

We flew into Naples, rented a car and drove to Positano (about an hour and a half of a drive) – in hindsight this was probably not the best idea. Although a stunning drive, it’s also a very scary and dangerous one. The locals drive fast and are happy to pass you out on a narrow, cliff road. Most of the towns are also one way streets, so if you miss a turn (like we did) you have to drive the whole loop again to get back to where you need to go. Not to mention the price of parking (crazy!)
There are regular buses and ferries that will take you up and down the Amalfi coast stress free. I’d definitely recommend looking into these options before renting a car.
What we ate
Pizza, Pasta, Gelato – all with wine. Need I say more?
What we got up to
- We drove the coastal drive from Sorrento to Positano – and although it was (very) scary at times, it’s a drive I’ll never forget.
- We got a boat out to Capri and this is an absolute must see! We got the cable car to the top of the mountain – took in the views, got lost on the tiny streets, and caught some rays before getting a boat back that evening.
- Drank wine on Positano Spiagga beach with lots of American students.
- Sipped on cocktails and danced at Music on the Rocks.
- Lots of walking, exploring and relaxing
Next time I go back, I will definitely be visiting Ravello, Amalfi, Sorrento and spending more time on Capri. If you’ve planned a visit these have to be added to your list
