I am just back from a week in Cape Cod, Massachusetts with my family who came over to visit from Ireland. Those of you who follow me on Instagram & Snapchat (lou1409) already know everything I got up to this week, fitting in visits to Boston, Martha’s Vineyard, Provincetown & the beach of course.
The week was off to a great start arriving on America’s 239th birthday, better known as Indpendence day. I caught up with my New York gals Erika, Lorna & Ciara for some drinks on the beach. With the Cape being so enclosed we had views of hundreds of fireworks going off all across Cape Cod and on the islands across from us: Nantucket & Martha’s Vineyard. It was such a cool experience and a great way to spend the 4th.
The thing I loved most about this trip was that even though we had the beach right across the road from our house, we also had lots of options for things to do, kicking our week off with a trip to Boston on Monday. We got a bus tour around the city and got to see all the main sites: Fenway Park, MIT, Boston Harbour & Seaport, Quincy Market (along with lots of other places I can’t remember now). It’s definitely a cool city and one I’ll have to visit again when I have time to wander and explore. My favourite place we visited was Harvard – so pretty and scenic just like it seems in all the movies.

On Tuesday, we set out for another day trip, this time to Martha’s Vineyard, where I had previously learned the movie ‘JAWS’ was filmed – safe to say I did not get in the water that day!
I had heard that Martha’s Vineyard was pretty but honestly – I never thought it would be as pretty as it was. All the houses were so colourful, unique and vintage. I had to delete about 10 apps on my phone that day to make room for all the pictures I took. The houses I stumbled across are appropriately named the ‘Gingerbread houses’ – I chose the pink with the hearts one as my future house (but any of the below would do).

The excitement of Martha’s Vineyard took a toll on my phone battery, and I decided to leave Gingerbread lane and meet the rest of my family. We rented bikes and cycled from Oaksbluff to Edgartown – we only cycled about 15km that day in 30 degree Celsius heat. No biggie. Tanning, exercising & site-seeing all in one go – successful day!

Our last bit of adventuring on this trip was up to Provincetown. A magical little town located at the very tip of Cape Cod. I was told it’s the best spot on the Cape for Whale Watching – unfortunately we didn’t catch a glimpse of any. However we did enjoy some great seafood and live street music, so definitely not a wasted visit. If you’re vacationing out on the West Coast, maybe you could consider a san diego whale watching boat trip with the family.

In between all of our travels we did manage to fit in some quality beach time – which was refreshing before coming back to the oven that is NYC. It was the perfect week of relaxing, exploring and catching up with family – but as always I’m excited to be back in the city and to get back to ‘normality’.
Hope everyone has a great week,
Louise x
