Hey everyone,
I’m just back from what was the coolest weekend at Milan Fashion Week with my friend Dearbhla. We conquered London Fashion Week last year together and thought it was time to take on a new city. I’ve been laying low since coming back, and this blog post was a little slower to come than usual. After the month of travelling I’ve just had so much to catch up on in work, and in life. But I can’t wait to share more with you about this amazing weekend getaway.
The first thing we noticed was how expensive hotels were for this weekend. Luckily we found the gorgeous Aparthotel Meneghino – which I’d highly recommend for anyone visiting Milan. It’s central, very clean and the staff were so helpful. Also, look at the view we had from our balcony.
After checking in we set out for our first day in the fashion capital of the world. We had one objective in mind – see the Cathedral. And that’s exactly what we did, for hours, in the glorious sunshine. We found an amazing Terrace Bar called Duomo 21 which doubled as a sun trap and sipped on G&T’s & vino until the sun went down. Not quite the busy day of exploring we had planned, but it was so relaxing. People watching in Milan is top notch – so even doing that is an experience in itself.
That evenings dinner plans involved pizza (DUH!) and drinks in the Navilgi District – a must visit when you’re in Milan. There’s lots of lovely restaurants and bars to choose from and a stunning canal to walk down and take it all in.
Saturday was a busy day for us, we bought tickets and got the lift to the top of the Cathedral and WOW!!! it was amazing. It was definitely my favourite thing we did on the whole trip. It’s the most beautiful building I’ve ever seen. The amount of detail is just insane, it’s hard to even believe when you see it. It was the perfect location for some rooftop sunbathing.
Our next stop was the Riad Food Garden for some lunch, little did we know this was located right across from where the D&G show was on. The hype was unbelievable, there were hundreds of people just waiting to watch people going in and so many photographers snapping all the street style. They even started snapping photos of us – it was hilarious. I spotted one of my favourite bloggers Song of Style leaving the show after she had walked in it, and also the editor of Vogue Japan, Anna Del Russo.
Our next stop was Nottingham Forest where we got the coolest cocktails I’ve ever had (mine was a bathtub with a rubber duck, does it get much cooler than that?!) Then on to our first and only show of fashion week, Calcaterra. This was held in the stunning Palazzo Reale and the whole experience was very surreal. It was definitely a pinch me moment.
On our last day we did one last bit of sightseeing – the Castle (which looked more like a prison) and we did some window shopping in the stunning Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – this is beside the cathedral and a must see! We grabbed an expensive cup of coffee in the cafe above Prada and watched the fashion world go by.
I have a little secret to share with those of you who managed to make it this far in the blog post haha! I actually attempted to vlog this trip, it’s something I’m very new to – and it’s probably a complete mess. But I hope to tackle the editing of it this weekend and have it live next week. Fingers crossed anyway.
