New York is a great place to be at all times of the year, but I have to admit that Summer is definitely my favourite. I spent 3 summers here before finally moving over for the year this year. One of the tricky things about New York in the summer is the heat – dressing for it & keeping cool it are the main issues that come to mind.
Since my first visit I’ve been told that everyone leaves the city in the summer, they head to the coast to get away from the concrete jungle and steamy subway. As much as I love the beach, I have to say there is a lot I love about the city at this time of year too: relaxing in the parks, rooftop bars, concerts, sunsets, there is just so much going on all the time and it’s nice not having to worry about layers, coats and carrying an umbrella everywhere you go.
The Highline in Chelsea, where I shot this look, is a perfect spot to relax on a summers day. It used to be an old railway line, but was converted into a garden path, that extends for about 20 streets along the East river. There are sun-loungers, snacks and gorgeous views over looking the water and the Meat Packing district.
Here are a selection of other places that are great for summer days in the city:

Enjoy the views of the city from the Brookyln Bridge Park in DUMBO

Sheep Meadow in Central Park. Grab a blanket, a bikini and a frisbee and you’ll fit right in here in no time.

Ice cream and Water – the perfect spot to catch a few rays with a breeze.

Rooftop pools – you’ll have to pay, and may be packed on a nice day – but worth it!

Any rooftop you can find!

Astoria Park – complete with a free swimming pool!

Catch an outdoor movie every Monday night of the summer in Bryant Park

East River Skate Park – come here on Saturday for Smorgasburg & enjoy the food & views.

Coney Island – the easiest beach to get to from NY. Such a fun day trip!

Madison Square Park – right in the middle of the city & it has its own Shake Shack!
