Hey guys,
I hope you all had a lovely weekend. They just go by too fast these days don’t they? I mentioned in a blog post recently about the challenge of balancing work and blogging, and at the moment I’m really cherishing the weekends. Those daylight hours are things I really miss at the moment with it just getting bright as I head into work, and it’s pitch black by the time I leave.
I try to make the most of every second I have, but then comes the question ‘when is it time to just switch off?‘
I think that’s something that a lot of people struggle with – whether you work in blogging, you work for yourself, you’re doing a course, you have kids, whatever it is… In a world that’s moving more and more online everyday, there isn’t really such a thing as designated down-time. It’s something you need to create for yourself.
My work is 9-5 and my blog is everything in between that, its the first thing I look at when I wake up in the morning, it’s the last thing I think about before bed and it’s where I spend all of my lunchtimes, holidays, weekends… It falls somewhere in between work and a hobby so I think that’s where the confusion of when to ‘switch off’ comes in.
Don’t underestimate the value of doing nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering – Winnie The Pooh
For me, it’s something I only recently learned I need to include in my plans. I always say I just wish I had an unlimited supply of energy for all the things I want to do, but the fact is, I don’t and no one does. There is only 24 hours in a day and that’s never gonna change. So as much as it’s important to get stuff done, it’s also important to relax and enjoy the now.
I’ve been making an effort and I’m gonna keep making an effort to make downtime a part of my daily and weekly plan. For me it’s the little things, like enjoying a nice cup of coffee in the morning, a cup of peppermint tea at night, a phoneless date night, a brunch with the girls, a little bit of exercise here and there… Something that really allows me to switch off from work and blogging. Anyway, that’s enough rambling for one day. If you have any tips for switching off that you think work I’d love to hear them, drop me a message on Snapchat (lou1409).
A few words on this look, here I’m mixing high-end and high-street. I’m wearing all Penneys everything, with my new Gucci GG Marmont bag (aka my baby). I wore this exact outfit for some drinks with the girls a few weeks ago (Downtime = Tick). Party season is almost upon us now, so for any of you looking to get your wardrobe Christmas ready I have another post coming tomorrow with my top picks of party dresses.
Have a great day and I’ll be back tomorrow,
Louise x
